A lawn should be aerated and dethatched to encourage air, moisture and nutrients to enter. Scarification increases air passage into the ground when compared to hollow coring machines, helps to reduce compacted areas particularly where the lawn is used as a path and allows top dressings to be applied.
The plastic tines are highly effective but will not damage paving or concreted areas, and are much safer.
