Hayter invented the rotary mower over fifty years ago, and the Hayterette is the descendant of that first design. There is no collector bag: this mower is intended primarily to tackle rough grass, which it does supremely well. However, you can also lower the cut to half an inch and use it on a fine lawn.
The four swinging blades are unusual these days, but are especially suitable for their purpose. A modern development, incorporated on most Hayters, is the finned leading edge to the cutting deck which noticeably improves the cut.
There is a safety lever called the Operator Presence Control which you keep depressed during use. When you let go, the blade and engine will stop completely within three seconds. Hayter fit modern engines on all their machines, designed to the latest standards for carbon and noise emissions.
Adjusting the height of cut is exceptionally easy: you just set one lever to any of seven positions up to 3 inches maximum.
