The Harrier is probably one of the most well-known models of rotary mower. Its alloy deck is extremely durable against corrosion, and now the underside is ribbed and lined to give a more controlled cut and to dampen noise. A unique friction disc is fitted between the engine and the blade bar so that the blade will slip if it hits a solid object. Hayter are so confident that this will save the crankshaft from bending (a very expensive procedure if it happens) that they give a lifetime guarantee.
There is a safety lever called the Operator Presence Control which you keep depressed during use. It fits snugly into the handlebar, and when you let go the blade and engine will stop completely within three seconds. Hayter fit modern engines on all their machines, designed to the latest standards for carbon and noise emissions.
Adjusting the height of cut is exceptionally easy: you just move one lever. Another convenience is that the grass bag can be lifted out between the handlebars for easy emptying. The ribbed rear roller imprints smart stripes onto the lawn and allows the machine to overhang while running along a border edge.
